Bowel cancer is a major cause of death in the UK and is very treatable if diagnosed early. Since the Scottish bowel screening programme began in 2008 it is estimated that 160 deaths have been prevented in Lothian alone. From the age of 50 to 75 at 2 year intervals you will be asked to send off a sample of faeces to check for early signs of bowel cancer. The invitation comes with full instructions, and needs to be done 3 times over 3 days. If you would like any further guidance on this screening programme please visit the website .http://www.bowelscreening.scot.nhs.uk or contact us at the surgery.
