Repeat Prescriptions ( posted on Mar 25, 2020 )

Hello

In the last few days we have had multiple calls about ordering repeat medication

If you do need to reorder medication then please do so in the normal ways

  • Request Online - you can do this via our website where you will receive a confirmation email when your script has been submitted to us or, if you have signed up for patient facing services you can request your medication via there

  • Post your medication request through the surgery post box

Requests will be processed as normal IE scripts will be available 48hrs after we have received your request and you can collect your prescription from the surgery or if you have nominated a pharmacy it will go to them for collection

The only thing we cannot do is provide you with any more medication than your normal prescription amounts IE we cannot give you multiple months of supplies

Following on from a review of the way we give results and some feedback from our patients, we have updated our results policy.  Please check out the appointments section of the website and then select Test Results for further information

Changes to our working practices ( posted on Aug 28, 2018 )

As you have read, we are currently giving the surgery a facelift with some changes to the building itself.  We have also taken the oppertunity to review our working practices and have decided to make some changes to the way we work to bring us in line with General Practice in Lothian

Here is a list of changes

  • Call Recording is now live - please be aware that with effect from Monday 20th August 2018 all calls into and out of the practice are recorded.  This is for training and quality purposes.
  • Requesting an appointment - please be aware that we will ask you for a brief outline of what your reason for your appointment is.  This is to allow us to direct you to the best clinician to assist your needs.  We do not need every detail - just enough to allow us to help you as best we can
  • Text messaging goes live on 29th August 2018 - this means that if you have signed up for the service you will start to receive reminders of your up and coming appointments etc.  You will also receive a message if we need to speak to you about test results or if we need to let you know about any updates from the surgery.  Its not to late to sign up to this service.  Just fill out a form in Reception and hand it in to us
  • Our results line will close on 27th August 2018 -if we need to speak to you about results of tests etc then the surgery will contact you.  PLEASE READ THE RESULTS INFORMATION ON OUR APPOINTMENTS PAGE AT THE TOP OF THE COLUMN ON THE LEFT OF YOUR SCREEN.  Please note that we will continue to provide INR results to those patients who require this.
  • Extended Medical Certificates - if you need to extend an existing sickline then please call the surgery and select option 3 between 10am and 12 noon.  The Reception team will assist you with this.  Please do not make an appointment with a GP purely to extend your sickline - please only do so if you need to see a GP for medical reasons

If you have any questions, please contact the practice team.

Changes to Reception ( posted on Aug 28, 2018 )

If you have visited the Practice in recent weeks, you will have noticed the changes in our Reception area.  We have removed the old storage units and opened up the space instead.  This means that our Reception & Admin team can now be closer to our patients, improving on telephone answering times and the time waiting to be seen at the desk.  We will be making changes througout the surgery however the first change will be in Reception with new furnishings and some new colours too.  Please bear with us as we bring the Practice up to date.  Here are our first before/after pictures.  We will keep you informed as we go.

New Text Message Service ( posted on May 15, 2018 )

The Longhouse Surgery is introducing a text message reminder service for patients with registered mobile phone numbers. With your consent, we can contact you via text message regarding your appointments, test results and other more general information about our services.

If you consent, your mobile phone number will be registered in your medical record on our computer system. If you change your mobile number, or pass on your phone to another person, please update us with your new contact details. It will remain your responsibility to do this. If this is not updated, there is a risk information will be passed to the wrong person.

You may withdraw consent at any time by notifying the practice.

Some older children may wish to change consent for this service to their own mobile phone numbers. Legally, patients aged 12 or over may provide their own numbers for this service. In this instance they should contact the practice to update their contact details. Children under 12 years of age living at the same address as their responsible adult may have the reminders sent to the number of the responsible adult if requested.

Please collect a consent form from Reception or let us know when you call that you are happy to go ahead

Appointment Length ( posted on Oct 25, 2012 )

Our appointment slots are 10 minutes long. As you can imagine it is difficult to squeeze everything into this timeframe and as a result we sometimes run late. It would be very helpful if you could as much as possible try to discuss only one or two problems per appointment; if you do come with a list of problems please do not be offended if your Doctor asks you to make a second appointment to finish discussing them. This is so that we can give each problem the attention needed to deal with it properly.
